Dr. Charles Abraham received his Bachelor of Science from Iowa State University in 1980, majoring in Biology. He also received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Iowa  State in 1986, where he graduated with honors and distinction.  He has over 22 years experience in private equine practice.  Charles Abraham founded Abraham's Equine Clinic in 1991.  He is certified by Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine in Embryo Transfer procedures. 

Dr. Abraham is a Kirkwood Community College Equine Science Advisory Board Member.  He also instructs at Kirkwood Community College in their Equine Science Department.  
 

Dr. Abraham is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners and the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association.


Dr. Melissa Holcomb joined Abraham’s Equine Clinic in June of 2010. She has spent the last year doing an equine internship working on some of the world’s top racehorses at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY, one of the largest equine hospitals in the world.  She got her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in St. Paul, MN.  She is also finishing a Master’s in Public Health through the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.  Melissa got a BS in Biology at Bemidji State University in Bemidji, MN. 

 

Dr. Holcomb loves all aspects of equine veterinary medicine, but has special interests in surgery, lameness, dentistry and internal medicine.  She also enjoys doing dog and cat spays, neuters, declaws and some of the other basic small animal procedures.

 

 

Melissa was born in Anchorage, Alaska and grew up in Bemidji, MN.  She grew up with horses and enjoyed breeding, training and showing.  She had mostly quarter horses over the years, but also had a saddlebred, thoroughbred and a couple of draft horses.  She rode Western, English and saddleseat and also did light and draft horse driving.

 

Melissa’s husband Rolly was a Captain in the U.S. Army and is starting medical school at the University of Iowa this fall.  Melissa and Rolly enjoy hiking, backpacking, camping, skiing and snowboarding, hunting, fishing, canoeing, biking, weight lifting (Melissa is a former competitive powerlifter), flying (Melissa is a pilot) and doing pretty much anything outdoors.
