Embryo transfer is the process of retrieving an embryo from a donor mare, and transferring it to a recipient mare, who will then carry the foal to term. This process requires that both the donor and recipient mare’s cycles are synchronized to ensure consistent hormonal levels in both mares. Pregnancy rate in embryo transfer is typically around 80%.
This process is commonly practiced when you are looking to produce multiple foals in one season from the same mare, producing a foal from a mare who you intend to keep in full work for competing/training, or when you are experiencing infertility problems.
